The app

Dictation Indicator for Mac collects nothing. Specifically:

• No audio. It never records or listens to the microphone. It only checks which apps are using the microphone, which is why macOS never asks it for microphone access.
• No network requests. The app never connects to the internet itself. Nothing leaves your Mac.
• Purchases go through the App Store. If you subscribe, Apple handles the payment. The app only learns whether you have an active subscription.
• Shared post links stay on your Mac. If you paste a link to a post you shared on X or LinkedIn into the app, the app only checks that it looks like a post on that network. It never opens the link.
• No account. There is nothing to sign up for.
• No analytics or tracking. No usage data, crash reports or identifiers are collected.

Your Settings, such as border color and which apps trigger it, are stored only on your Mac.

This website

dictationindicator.com uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device and does not track you across websites. We see only totals, such as how many people visited a page and which site sent them. There is no other analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Like any website, the server that hosts it may keep standard technical request logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to operate and secure the site. We do not use them to identify or track you.
